The Human Rights Authority is the investigative branch of the Guardianship and Advocacy Commission, a state agency that is dedicated to advocating for the rights of citizens with disabilities in Illinois. The Human Rights Authority investigates alleged violations of the rights of persons with disabilities by providers of services. The agency is unique in its use of citizen volunteers to conduct these investigations and make corrective recommendations. As such, Regional Authorities are always seeking to fill vacancies as they occur as well as maintain a pool of potential volunteer members for times when the need arises.
If you feel that you, or someone you know, has had their rights violated by a disability service provider or if you would like to volunteer to participate in the Northwest regional board, located in Champaign, please visit the website at gac.il.gov or call the statewide intake at 1-866-274-8023.

As you watch a live performance, every minute of entertainment represents hours of work behind the scenes by entertainment engineers. Technical directors and designers use mathematics, engineering and artistry to keep performers and audiences safe while producing seemingly death-defying feats.
Join us to learn more about this fascinating process from Professor Tracy Nunnally, a full professor, technical director, the head of the Design and Technology Area in the Northern Illinois University School of Theatre and Dance. Professor Nunnally has worked in professional entertainment since the 1980s. His contributions include all aspects of theatre automation, motion control, rigging, pyrotechnics, special effects, scenery construction, and technical design.

Although labs are common in the sciences, the humanities rarely provide spaces for researching and learning about physical materials and technology. Responding to that lack, NIU Libraries is planning to build a book lab enabling faculty, students, and community members to gain a historical understanding of various technologies of text production from medieval manuscripts to current digitization. Our lab would join about twenty university labs nationwide and represents an increased scholarly interest in the interdisciplinary study history of the book. Let me tell you about other labs, the plans for NIU’s lab and how all of this fits with NIU’s history!
