The Northern Illinois University Board of Trustees has approved a 28-person Presidential Search Advisory Committee. President John G. Peters announced during his State of the University Address that he will step aside June 30, 2013.

Dr. Peters Helped Build NIU Through Dedication

The son of first-generation immigrants from Eastern Europe, John Peters grew up understanding the importance of hard work and the value of education. The core values of dedication, family and sacrifice, which he learned on a small dairy farm in Strongsville, Ohio, helped prepare him to meet the challenges and changes of leading a 21^st century university, a position he has held since 2000.

Dr. Peters Will Leave NIU In June 2013

Dr. John G. Peters will step down as president of Northern Illinois University effective with the end of the current academic year. Peters announced his plans during this afternoon's State of the University address.

The respected political scientist became the 11th president of NIU in June 2000.
