She was visiting Lebanon during a period of peace, in 2003.</p><p>The Syrians were brand new parents and allowed Porterfield to hold their infant.</p><p>"They were very sweet," she says. "And the baby was adorable."</p><p>She doesn't know where the family is today; they were from Aleppo, the site of intense fighting between government troops and rebels.</p> Wed, 04 Sep 2013 11:44:32 +0000 Dan Klefstad 35556 at http://northernpublicradio.org Poem Recalls Syrian Family Illinois Lawmakers Back Obama's Action http://northernpublicradio.org/post/illinois-lawmakers-back-obamas-action <p></p><p>President Obama's statement on Syria has drawn responses from Illinois' elected representatives.</p><p>On Saturday, the president said the White House plans to take military action against Syria's regime for its use of chemical weapons, but added that he first will&nbsp; seek approval from Congress.</p><p>16th District Congressman Adam Kinzinger says if he is asked to go to Washington right away, he would support taking military action.
