U.S. Marshals Service Says Selling Crundwell's Assets Was Not All "Smooth Sailing"

Federal marshals have now liquidated all of the known assets of Rita Crundwell, the former Dixon comptroller who admitted to embezzling nearly $53 million from the city.

Last week, marshals sold Crundwell’s final three assets, including two vehicles and a trailer. That sale brought in about $36,000.

Former Dixon Comptroller Rita Crundwell was sentenced today to serve 235 months -- 19 years and 7 months -- in prison on one federal count of wire fraud resulting from her embezzlement of more than $53 million in public funds from the City of Dixon.

The U.S. Marshals Service has liquidated nearly all of the assets of Rita Crundwell, the former Dixon comptroller who admitted embezzling vast sums from the city. One of the final sales will be her personal jewelry collection. The jewelry sale, scheduled Feb. 23 in Texas, will be simulcast to reach a wider audience.

When all is said and done, the city of Dixon will only recoup a fraction of the $53 million taken from the city's coffers over the last two decades.

Crundwell Home Furnishings and Homes for Sale

The U.S. Marshals Service is selling three of Rita Crundwell's properties. According to a news release, the Marshals have received offers for three of the properties and are accepting competing offers until noon Dec. 21. Public inspections of the three properties will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 7, 8 and 14. A sales plan on Crundwell’s two additional real estate holdings in Dixon and Englewood, Fla., both residential properties, is pending.
