There are three states tied for the highest unemployment rate in the country: Nevada, Mississippi, and California. Doing better by one-tenth of one percent is Illinois.

New Translations for Benefit Applications

Illinois applications for unemployment benefits are now available online in Spanish and Polish. The translations follow other changes made to help people whose primary language is not English. The Illinois Department of Employment Security has had requests for more than 60 languages.

DeKalb Unemployment Office Closing

The Illinois Department of Employment Security has announced it is closing seven offices and cutting 192 positions. The list of closures includes the DeKalb office. The agency says the decision is due in part because a somewhat improved economy. That has led to fewer unemployment insurance claims.

Government jobs loss pushes Illinois unemployment up to 8.9%

Although Illinois added 800 private-sector jobs in July, a sharp decline in local school jobs brought the net tally to 7,100 fewer positions in July than June. That helped the unemployment rate inch upward 0.2 points to 8.9 percent.

Seasonally adjusted preliminary data was released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES).

Unemployment down, payroll up in Rockford metro

The Rockford metro area unemployment rate fell nearly one percentage point in May to 10.4 percent and payroll employment grew by 3,400 jobs or 2.3 percent, according to preliminary data released today.

The data comparing May 2012 to May 2011 is not seasonally adjusted. The state unadjusted rate has dropped every month this year.
