DeKalb, IL – Opponents of the proposed expansion of the DeKalb County landfill get their day in court Monday -- or at least their day in a court-like setting. The Illinois Pollution Control Board hosts a public hearing at the DeKalb County Health Department. Pollution Control Board spokesperson Connie Newman says people can give testimony under oath as time allows. DeKalb, IL – The film "on the edge" makes its DeKalb debut this weekend (NOV.20). The hour-long documentary focuses on the lives of seven homeless women as they tell the stories of their fall from housing and independence, the traumatic effects on their children and their struggles to escape homelessness.
WNIJ's Guy Stephens spoke with the film's director, NIU Communications Professor Laura Vazquez. The film will be shown at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon (Nov.20) at NIU's Wirtz Hall.

Illinois Firearm Deer Season opens this weekend Friday through Sunday, Nov. 19-21 and concludes Dec. 2-5. More than 370,000 permits have been issued so far. For information on remaining permits, check the IDNR website at http://www.dnr.illinois.gov/hunting/Pages/Deer.aspx. Legal hunting hours for the firearm deer season are one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.
