Belvidere, IL – Many police departments across the country offer ordinary citizens a chance to learn how the police do their work. The departments see it as a way to fight crime and connect with the community. WNIJ's Guy Stephens visited a Citizens Police Academy in Belvidere and has this report:
WNIJ news – Residents in Illinois' 8th Congressional District now know who their next Congressman will be. After a hard fought race, incubment Democrat, Melissa Bean, has conceded to her Republican opponent. Bean's announcement follows a final tally of absentee and provisional ballots, which gave GOP nominee, Joe Walsh, a lead of 290 votes. With Walsh's victory, the district now goes back to Republican control, six years after Bean defeated longtime GOP Congressman, Phil Crane.

WNIJ news – Bill Brady has conceded the tight race for Illinois governor. The Republican nominee made the announcement during a Friday afternoon speech from his hometown of Bloomington. Brady's campaign had been hoping absentee and other ballots would help the state Senator overcome Pat Quinn's slim lead of more than 19-thousand votes. But, Brady acknowledged Friday it would be impossible to defeat the Democratic governor.
