Guy Stephens

WNIJ Here and Now Host

Guy Stephens is the local host for NPR's Here and Now on WNIJ.  He also produces news stories for the station, and coordinates our online events calendar, PSAs and Arts Calendar announcements.  In each of these ways, Guy helps keep our listening community informed about what's going on, whether on a national or local level.  Guy's degrees are in music, and he spent a number of years as a classical host on WNIU.  In fact, after nearly 20 years with Northern Public Radio, the best description of his job may be "other duties as required."

Two Democrats are vying for their party’s nomination in the race in Illinois’ 14th Congressional District.  WNIJ's Guy Stephens reports:

Science-fiction author, technology activist and blogger Cory Doctorow visited the NIU campus recently. Doctorow has long been involved in issues of privacy and freedom related to modern technology. His bestseller “Little Brother” focused on just those issues as a group of teens use the internet to battle government attempts to strip them of their civil liberties.  WNIJ’s Guy Stephens had a chance to sit down with Doctorow for a conversation about the dilemma society faces in the Internet age.

Northern Illinois University

An open house and a rededication ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 12, marked the formal reopening of Cole Hall on the Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. The building was closed after a gunman killed five others and himself nearly four years ago in a lecture room.

The Rockford Dance Company and the Rockford Symphony Orchestra team up for their annual performances of The Nutcracker.  WNIJ’s Guy Stephens has more.
