Rockford is hosting the 14th annual Puma Cup tournament starting today.
The event consists of two tournaments: the College Showcase and Champions Club, which will feature a combined total of 792 teams from across the Midwest and Canada, with competitors ranging in age from 7 to 18.
It comes on the tail end of Reclaiming First, a local development campaign that modernized the Rockford Park District “Sportscore” facilities. This means athletes will benefit from improved facilities as well as the opportunity to play on several new synthetic turf fields.
The Puma Cup is expected to have a significant economic impact for the region, with more than 52,000 visitors expected, contributing more than $2.3 million in revenue.
