Ambulance Stolen In Rockford, Recovered In McHenry County

Rockford Memorial Hospital

An ambulance stolen Wednesday afternoon from Rockford Memorial Hospital has been found.  It was taken from the Emergency Room parking lot.

An investigation found the suspect, later identified as 51-year-old Paul Chandler, got into the ambulance while it was parked unattended. A paramedic and nurse attempted to stop him. He drove the ambulance at them. He then drove away.

Rockford Police received information that the ambulance was found abandoned in McHenry County. Officers found Chandler at a Belvidere business and he was taken into custody without incident. He was then returned to Rockford.

This incident was reviewed with the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. Chandler faces (2) counts of Aggravated Assault and (1) of Theft of Motor Vehicle.
