DeKalb, IL – Amtrak service from Chicago to Rockford to Dubuque, Iowa will stop in Genoa, NOT Belvidere. Today, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced the route Amtrak will take when passenger rail service is restored to the area for the first time in nearly thirty years. State Transportation Secretary Gary Hannig says the route through the northern DeKalb County town of Genoa was chosen over Belvidere because it offers "the best deal for travelers and taxpayers." Daily service could begin in early 2014.
