A dozen health centers in Illinois, including two in Kane County, and eight health centers in Wisconsin, including one in Beloit, have been awarded federal funding to broaden access to dental care.
Nearly $4.4 million in support was announced Thursday by U. S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell to fund new dentists, dental hygienists, assistants, aides and technicians at 12 Illinois health centers. The eight Wisconsin centers received nearly $2.8 million from the program.
Among the organizations receiving the grants are VNA Healthcare in Aurora, the Greater Elgin Family Care Center, and Community Health Systems of Beloit. Each was awarded $350,000.
Nationwide, the grants total nearly $156 million in funding to support 420 health centers in 47 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
