Back To The Polls For Voters In Wisconsin!

Tuesday is Partisan Primary Day in Wisconsin, where the field of candidates for public office will be narrowed to one per political party for the November general election.

County, state and federal candidates are on the ballot.

What may be the most publicized race involves U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan of Janesville, who faces a challenge from fellow Republican Paul Nehlen of Williams Bay. Two Democrats – Ryan Solen of Mt. Pleasant and Tom  Breu of Janesville -- are seeking their party’s nomination. Libertarian Jason Lebeck of Janesville is unopposed.

Former U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold of Middleton, who is hoping to regain the seat he lost six years ago, is challenged by Scott Harbach of Kenosha for the Democratic nomination. Republican incumbent Ron Johnson of Oshkosh and Libertarian Phillip Anderson of Fitchburg have no opposition.

Voters must select one political party in this primary and vote only for candidates in that party. The polls are open until 8 p.m.

Statewide election vote totals, broken down statewide by county and by ward, are scheduled to be posted through a link on the Wisconsin Elections Commission website to the former Government Accountability Board site.

Rock County

Democratic County Clerk Lisa Tollefson of Milton faces a primary challenge from Sam Liebert of Janesville.

Incumbent County Treasurer Vicki Brown is not seeking re-election. One Republican and four Democrats are hoping to replace her.

Incumbent County Register of Deeds Randy Leyes also is not running to retain his post. Two Democrats are on the ballot for that job.

A complete listing of candidates and election results will be posted on the County Clerk’s website Tuesday night.

Green County

The Green County Clerk is running as an independent, so he does not appear on the primary ballot. The other county officers are running unopposed.

Two Democrats and one Republican are on the ballot for the District 80 Assembly seat.

Various sample ballots are available on the County Clerk’s website, where a link to election results will be posted Tuesday night.

Walworth County

Elections for the Walworth County offices are simplified by the fact that the incumbent County Clerk, County Treasurer and County Register of Deeds – all Republicans -- are the only candidates for their respective offices.

Two State Assembly races have contests: Two candidates are seeking the District 43 Democratic nomination, and four candidates are vying for the District 83 Republican nod.

Rich Sullivan and Zeke Wiedenfeld are on the Republican ballot to replace District Attorney Daniel Necci. There are no other candidates.

A complete listing of candidates  and election results will be posted on the County Clerk’s website Tuesday night.

Dane County

Incumbent Democratic District Attorney Ismael Ozanne faces a primary challenge from Bob Jambois, and incumbent County Treasurer Adam Gallagher has two opponents – Patrick Miles and Richard Brown – for the Democratic nomination. No Republicans have filed for either office.

The County Clerk and Register of Deeds are both unopposed.

There are Democratic primaries for several seats in the State Assembly: District 38, District 43, District 47, District 78 and District 80.

Specific ballot information is available through the statewide My Vote website, where a voter enters his or her address to view offices and candidates. Election results will be posted through the Dane County Clerk website, where there also is a link for all candidates throughout the county.
