Bus routes are changing and RMTD wants input

Rockford’s bus system may have some big changes in store … but not before its riders get a chance to weigh in.

The Rockford Mass Transit District is holding three public hearings today to introduce proposed changes and hear how its customers will be affected.

Lisa Brown, RMTD’s marketing director, says they are thinking of changing areas with low ridership but want to make sure they’re still taking passengers where they need to go.

Brown says no bus routes are being eliminated, but some may see reduced service. That includes buses arriving once an hour instead of every 45 minutes.

She says RMTD has expanded the territory it covers and has to make sure it can pay for those changes by cutting elsewhere.

All three public hearings will be held Thursday, June 14:

  • 10:30 a.m. - RMTD East Side Transfer Center Community Room, 725 Lyford Road, Rockford
  • 2:00 p.m. - Rockford Public Library Montague Branch, 1238 South Winnebago Street, Rockford
  • 6:00 p.m. - KenRock Community Center, 3218 11th St # 1, Rockford
