Crash Victim Identified As Former NIU Faculty Member

A longtime faculty member in Northern Illinois University's Department of Accountancy has died. Debra Hopkins, 62, directed the university's CPA Review Program for over two decades. She retired in 2012. A spokesman for NIU confirms Hopkins was the victim of a vehicle crash Mondayin Winnebago County.

According to the Illinois CPA Society, Hopkins also served as President of Hopkins CPA Knowledge and adjunct faculty member at North Central College and the University of Illinois, Chicago.

The organization honored Hopkins with its 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jenna Dooley has spent her professional career in public radio. She is a graduate of Northern Illinois University and the Public Affairs Reporting Program at the University of Illinois - Springfield. She returned to Northern Public Radio in DeKalb after several years hosting Morning Edition at WUIS-FM in Springfield. She is a former "Newsfinder of the Year" from the Illinois Associated Press and recipient of NIU's Donald R. Grubb Journalism Alumni Award. She is an active member of the Illinois News Broadcasters Association and an adjunct instructor at NIU.
