There may be another substantial amount of money from Rita Crundwell’s assets heading to the city of Dixon. The Justice Department has worked out a settlement with the former Dixon comptroller’s family.
Crundwell owns a 20 percent share of her family’s business, Humphrey Family Farms. Under the settlement, the family would pay the government $665-thousand to buy out Crundwell’s share, plus 15-thousand in distributions she would have earned. The deal still needs approval by a federal court. Crundwell embezzled nearly $54-million from her hometown over two decades and is serving nearly 19 years in prison.
If approved, this would up the amount returned to Dixon to more than 10 million dollars. There’s another online auction of Crundwell’s assets starting January 19th: it’s not expected to bring in much, though, because this time, it’s everything that didn’t sell in previous auctions.
