DeKalb Health Officials Urge Measles Prevention

CDC

There are more than a dozen confirmed cases of measles in Illinois.

DeKalb hasn't seen a case of the measles in more than a decade.

Jane Lux is the Public Health Administrator at the County Health Department. She says DeKalb hasn’t seen any cases of the measles since 2002.

She says they have three methods of combating a disease.

“Surveillance, public information and dispensing or vaccination.”

Lux says the health department is taking a proactive approach to be sure people are aware of their vaccination status.

“So if we have clients here who have not received it, we’re contacting them and reminding them.”

Lux says measles have been considered eradicated in the U. S. since 2000. But the country may continue to experience outbreaks because it hasn’t been eliminated in other parts of the world.
