Eugene Lowery currently serves as a deputy chief for the Crystal Lake Police Department.
According to a press release from DeKalb officials, Lowery also served as the Undersheriff for the McHenry County Sheriff's Department for 21 years. He started his career with the Ottawa Police Department in 1979.
Lowery says "the DeKalb Police Department is well known and highly respected. I am honored to have been chosen to lead it."
If approved by the Mayor and City Council, Lowery will take over the Department on May 29. He replaces Bill Feithen, who left DeKalb earlier this year to head the police force in Monmouth, IL.
