The City of DeKalb is asking residents and businesses to register with the Code Red Emergency Notification System, which will replace the city’s Reverse 911 System.

DeKalb Assistant Fire Chief Jeff McMaster says the previous system limited the number of people who could be contacted simultaneously.

"We are able to notify thousands of people within seconds and so that is the big difference. They can either be broad spectrum or it can be pinpoint specific areas which is extremely useful." - DeKalb Assistant Fire Chief Jeff McMaster

Registered residents will receive an e-mail, text message or one-minute voice message at 10 a.m. Monday that will confirm how quickly notifications can be delivered.

Residents can register by calling the DeKalb Police or Fire Department at 815-748-8400, DeKalb Fire Department at 815-748-8460 or visiting www.cityofdekalb.com. The system also is compatible with TDD devices for the hearing-impaired.
