Democrat Anna Moeller may have dodged a bullet as she seeks election to hold onto her seat in the Illinois House. The State Board of Elections made a decision yesterday.
Rep. Moeller, who’s from Elgin, registered to run – as a Democrat. She then signed a petition in support of a Republican getting on the ballot to run for Kane County Recorder.
A local woman complained because primary candidates have to align with one party or the other.
Under questioning, Moeller’s attorney Michael Kasper said she was lucky she’d signed her own petition first, although signing both was not very wise.
“There's an old saying it's better to be lucky than good, and in this case luckily for me the candidate in this case signed her own petition first,” Kasper said.
The Illinois State Elections Board voted six to two that Moeller can stay on the ballot. But the Elgin woman who objected has four more days to appeal.
