Northern Illinois University’s football team is headed back to Detroit Friday night.

NIU will play in its sixth consecutive Mid-American Conference Championship game. The Huskies face Bowling Green at Ford Field. The game airs on ESPN2.

Speaking at a recent news conference, NIU Coach Rod Carey says the team is excited.

"This was one of the goals all the way along. We are certainly we have the opportunity to get in there and get ourselves a championship," Carey said.

Lynch Legacy

A familiar face may be in the stands. Former Huskie quarterback and Heisman trophy finalist Jordan Lynch told The Daily Herald he plans to cheer on NIU in Detroit. Lynch recently made headlines for his role in the championship game for the Canadian Football League.

Lynch's late touchdown gave his team, the Edmonton Eskimos, a win in Canada's Grey Cup.

Volleyball Coach Earns MAC Honors

Meanwhile, NIU’s Volleyball coach is this year’s Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year. Ray Gooden’s team finished 14 and 2 in MAC play.  The season ended with a loss to Ohio in the volleyball MAC Championship match last month.
