A federal judge is scheduled to hold a detention hearing for a 22-year-old Illinois Army National Guard soldier, who was accused of plotting a terrorist attack.
Prosecutors must offer proof today in Chicago for why Hasan Edmonds should remain jailed. A complaint that was unsealed last week says he and his 29-year-old cousin, Jonas Edmonds, planned an attack on a U.S. military facility in Joliet.
Jonas Edmonds isn't challenging his detention.
The complaint says Hasan Edmonds sent a message over the Internet to an undercover FBI agent in January. Hasan Edmonds said in the message he hoped to travel to the Middle East. He allegedly wrote he wanted to "cause as much damage and mayhem as possible" in the U.S. if he couldn't travel to fight ISIS.
An arraignment date has not been set.
