Dixon to host competition for "cubers"

16-year-old John Brechon was a shy teen, until he discovered others shared his passion of cubing.  A familiar example of cubing is the popular Rubik's Cube puzzle game.  But it is much more than that.  There are cubes of all shapes and sizes, and for Brechon, it is about beating the clock to solve each puzzle.

"They time your solves and basically whoever has the fastest times wins."

Sounds easy, right?  That depends on how skilled the cuber is, and in some tournaments, the cuber must solve the puzzle blindfolded.

Instead of traveling around the country for another weekend tournament this summer, Brechon and his mother Jean decided to start their own. Last year, they held a tournament in Dixon and plan to again this year at the Dixon Historic Center. With an official delegate present, this competition is recognized as an official World Cube Association competition.

Want to Go?

The competition will be held at the Dixon Historic Center on June 16 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Day of registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Cubers can also pre-register online.

Admission is free for spectators.
