Elgin Man Named State Housing Chair

Galvan & Associates

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has appointed an Elgin man as chairman of the Illinois Housing Development Authority.  Joseph P. Galvan, a former candidate for mayor of the city, is a veteran in the field.

Galvan has more than 30 years of public and private sector experience in housing.  Galvan is currently Principal of Galvan and Associates, a housing development and consulting practice located in Chicago and Washington, D.C.  He spent eight years as Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Midwest region under President George W. Bush.  Galvan has also done consulting and city planning for several Chicago suburbs.

Galvan received a bachelor’s degree in economics and a graduate’s degree in urban planning from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He also received a graduate’s degree in philosophy from Loyola University Chicago.

Galvan ran for mayor of Elgin in the April 2015 election, losing by a more than two-to-one margin to incumbent Elgin mayor Dave Kaptain.
