Rockford University trustees unanimously appointed Eric Fulcomer as the school's next leader. He is the school's current Vice President of Enrollment Management. He is also the former mayor of Bluffton, Ohio.
Retiring Rockford University President Robert Head says that experience will help Fulcomer in his new role.
"Leadership is about having people understand a common vision and working towards that common vision. The idea that [he] was able to do that, not only in higher education but [also] in city government, is a tremendous asset that he would bring to the table," Head said.
Fulcomer says he would like to continue to improve the pipeline between Rockford University and Rockford Public Schools and Rock Valley College.
"This is a challenging environment in which to recruit students. We've been able to do that. We hope to continue that growth in enrollment and also develop some new partnerships and new academic programs that I think will help move the institution forward," Fulcomer told reporters Monday.
Head will stay on for the next few months during the presidential transition. Fulcomer takes the helm July First.
