house.gov

Long-time Illinois Congressman Phil Crane has died. The Republican represented the far northwest suburbs for 35 years.

He was defeated in 2004 by political newcomer Melissa Bean. He was first elected to Congress in 1969 and became known as an anti-tax crusader. He even ran for president in 1980.

Crane died at his daughter’s home in Maryland Saturday night. He was 84 and had been suffering from lung cancer.
