Former Governor Supports Congressional Candidate

senatorlahood.com

An Illinois Republican Party elder statesman is endorsing State Senator Darin LaHood's bid for U.S. Congress.

Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar says he's known LaHood for 20 years.

"And I can't think of anyone that would be better qualified to serve this Congressional district; and by this Congressional district, he'll be my Congressman. And I look forward to having Darin representing me in Washington. He is a very thoughtful, no-nonsense young man."

LaHood is one of three GOP candidates vying for the 18th Congressional seat vacated by Peoria's Aaron Schock following an ethics scandal.

The primary race is scheduled for July 7th.

Edgar encourages voters who have plans for the July Fourth holiday to do what he is --- to vote before then.  Early voting began last month.

Donald Rients of Benson and Michael Flynn of Quincy are also aiming for the Republican nomination.

Democrats Robert Mellon of Quincy and Adam Lopez of Springfield are facing off.
