A judge has acquitted the former president of the village of Kingston in northern DeKalb County of misconduct and theft charges.
Judge Philip Montgomery found former Kingston Village President John Munro not guilty late Wednesday, according to the Daily Chronicle.
Munro called facing the charges "awful for our family."
Munro was charged with unlawful possession of a credit card, theft and official misconduct in October 2014 while serving as president of Kingston.
He was accused of using a village credit card to buy about $4,000 worth of gasoline for personal use. If convicted he faced up to five years in prison.
Munro served as village president in 1,100-resident Kingston for 12 years before resigning in December 2014.
