Geneva Teachers File Intent to Strike

District 304

Members of the District 304Board of Education met with members of the Geneva Education Association and a federal mediator last week.  Despite some progress, the Geneva Education Association delivered a Notice of Intent to Strike to Board negotiators.  Final offers have been posted on theIllinois Educational Labor Relations website. The earliest date that a strike can occur is Friday, November 9, 2012.

The Board and the union have been meeting since February. A federal mediator has been involved since July.

The Board will now prepare a strike plan. The next mediation session has tentatively been set for Tuesday, November 6, 2012.

  • October 12, 2012-the Geneva Education Association (GEA)/IEA-NEA declared impasse. 
  • October 19, 2012 – Final offers exchanged
  • October 26, 2012 – Final offers made public
  • November 9, 2012 – First day teachers could engage in a strike
