Huskies Claim MAC West Title

NIU

The NIU Huskies won a pivotal football game in DeKalb last night. Quarterback Jordan Lynchthrew for 407 yards and three touchdowns to help Northern Illinois beat Toledo 31-24.

With the win, the Huskies claim a spot in the Mid-American Conference championship game later this month in Detroit.

The game was broadcast on ESPN2. Huskies coach Dave Doeren talked about playing the game in front of a national audience.  His comments appear on NIU's website:

"I told these guys, I want to show the world how great you are. At halftime we talked about it. It wasn't really any magic; it was more about information - giving those guys the information. And the players made plays. As coaches, that's your job. Put the players in position to make plays, and then it's their job to make them. And they did. They made a bunch of them." - Coach Dave Doeren

The Huskies conclude the regular season on Friday, Nov. 23 against Eastern Michigan. NIU will make its third-straight appearance in the MAC Championship game on Friday, Nov. 30, at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan
