I-88 Ramp In DeKalb, Illinois 2 In Ogle County Are About To Become Problematic

Illinois Rules of the Road 2014

As Illinois transitions from the winter season to construction season, repair projects on two popular thoroughfares in northern Illinois are getting underway.

People who regularly travel Illinois 2 in Ogle County may want to look for an alternative over the next several months, starting Monday.

The Illinois Department of Transportation plans to resurface ten miles of highway between Oregon and Grand Detour. The $6 million project also will repair five bridges on the route, including the Grand Detour Bridge over the Rock River.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled by signals along parts of the route during bridge repairs. At the end of May, the entire stretch of Illinois 2 between the two towns will be reduced to one lane, open to southbound traffic only, with a detour marked for northbound traffic. IDOT expects work will be completed in the fall.

The Illinois Tollway is closing the on ramp connecting Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb to westbound Interstate-88 for six weeks – also starting Monday. It’s one of several planned ramp closures along I-88 from Rochelle to Aurora.

Tollway spokesman Dan Rozek says work at the westbound Annie Glidden Ramp will last until May. Then, the other three ramps will be closed simultaneously and traffic rerouted to the Peace Road exit. All four ramps connecting Annie Glidden Road and Interstate 88 will be rebuilt by the end of the project. Rozek expects all the repairs to finish in August.
