IL-6: Republican Incumbent Likely to Hold On to Seat

DeKalb, IL – Republican incumbent Peter Roskam will likely hold on to the Illinois 6th Congressional District seat, according to Northern Illinois University Political Science Professor Matt Streb.

Roskam first won the seat in a hotly contested race in 2006 against Iraq veteran Tammy Duckworth. His current Democratic rival, Jill Morgenthaler, is also an Iraq war veteran.

Morgenthaler trails Roskam in campaign funds, which is a detriment in the large media market of the 6th District, according to Streb.

"It is unlikely that this will be a turnover seat. [Roskam] is a likely Republican victory. He's got a large money advantage over Jill Morganthaler," Streb said.
