Illinois House minority leader Tom Cross is telling his Republican colleagues today he plans to run for Illinois treasurer.
The representative from Oswego has held the leadership position for ten years: he'll make his official campaign announcement in the coming weeks. Republican State Senator Darin LaHood confirmed for the Associated Press that Cross is calling Republicans today to inform them of his plans to run for treasurer. Cross is also telling his fellow Republicans to outline a succession plan. A number of Republicans are said to be clamoring for the leadership position, having been critical of Cross after tough election losses last fall.
The race for state treasurer is wide open: incumbent Republican Dan Rutherford is running for Governor. State Senator Mike Frerichs is running for treasurer on the Democratic side.
