Illinois Report Card Stats: Public High Schools In The WNIJ Listening Area

Carl Nelson

WNIJ

Illinois released its report card for public schools last week. There are still no results from the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers exam – known at the “PARCC” test – on the website.

WNIJ News took a look at how standard high schools rank against others in our listening area.

Carroll County has the highest average secondary-school graduation rate of 93 percent, while Winnebago County has the lowest with 76 percent.

All four of Rockford’s public high schools made the top ten schools in our listening area with the most low-income students.

Batavia Senior High School, Joliet West High School and Oswego High School all had the largest class sizes. Each has a 25-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio.

Ohio Community High School in Bureau County has the smallest average class size of six students. It is one of three schools in our listening area to have a 100 percent graduation rate.

However, Ohio High School had a ready-for-college rate of 20 percent. The Illinois Report Card website defines “ready for college” as the number of students who achieved an ACT score of 21 and above.

Depue High School in Bureau County has the lowest “ready for college” ranking at 16 percent.

The other two schools where all students graduated are Eastland Junior and Senior High School in Carroll County and Leland High School in LaSalle County.

Note: These lists exclude alternative, special needs and magnet schools. Lake County and DuPage counties are not included in these lists.
