It's National Cyber Security Awareness Month In Illinois

IEMA

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month, across the nation and in Illinois.

2015 marks the 12th anniversary for the initiative, part of a campaign that encourages people to take basic steps to make the Internet safer and more secure.  Led by nonprofit and public-private partnership the National Cyber Security Alliance, and the Department of Homeland Security, national and international events will take place around the month’s official theme, “Our Shared Responsibility.”

Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has proclaimed October National Cyber Security Awareness Month In Illinois as well.  The Illinois Emergency Management Agency is joining with local agencies to increase awareness of online risks and provide tips on what people can do to prevent protect themselves.  Those include regularly updating your anti-virus software, using strong passwords, protecting personal information, being cautious with links and attachments and reviewing your financial statements regularly.

Information on various cyber security topics will be posted weekly on the Ready Illinois website, as well as the Ready Illinois Facebook page and Twitter page.
