Jesse Jackson Jr. To Officially Complete Prison Sentence

jackson.house.gov

The Bureau of Prisons says former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has officially completed his 21/2-year prison sentence for spending $750,000 in campaign money on personal items.

Bureau spokesman Edmond Ross says the Illinois Democrat's home confinement in Washington, D.C., will be lifted Friday and his ankle monitor removed. Ross says inmates whose release dates fall on a Sunday are always released two days earlier.

The 50-year-old Jackson left an Alabama prison in March after two years behind bars. He lived in a halfway house and has been confined to his family home since June. He still must complete 500 hours of community service.

With Jackson's freedom, his wife will have to report to prison soon to serve a one-year sentence on a tax conviction related to the campaign money.
