Johnson Ready To Return To Treasurer's Office

ilga.gov

UPDATE: 2/19/13 The DeKalb County Board unanimously approved Johnson's nomination. Her tentative start date is March 4.

Christine Johnson says she is prepared to return as DeKalb County's Treasurer.  She led the office from 1994-2011.  Johnson filled out the state Senate term of Brad Burzynski, but was defeated by Senator Dave Syverson in last year's primary in a newly-drawn district. The county board is expected to confirm her selection as treasurer Wednesday night.

Johnson was chosen by a caucus of county Republicans to fill the seat recently vacated by Mark Todd.  He left to pursue a job in Hawaii.

While Johnson was in Springfield, she says Todd made some technology upgrades to the office. She says one staff member was added. She says she would like to continue working to improve technology, including moving vendor payments electronically.  Johnson says that may require a change in state law, and says she may be willing to help get the proposal moving.

Johnson says she also wants to improve mechanisms to detect check fraud and ensure the safety and security of county funds.  She cited the increased scrutiny of local treasurer's offices in light of fraud in Dixon.

Johnson says she plans to run for the office next year.
