Eight of Illinois’ 14 metropolitan areas experienced decreases in their over-the-year unemployment rate in June and eight of the metro areas had increases in nonfarm jobs, according to preliminary data released Thursday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Differences either way were relatively small. The June rate for Boone & Winnebago Counties was 6.3 %, compared to 6.6 % a year earlier. The area also saw an increase of 3,100 jobs. DeKalb County’s rate was 5.2 %, down from 5.5 %.
The statewide rate stood at 6 %, the same as June 2015.
