Kinzinger Retains Ballot Spot

16th District Congressman Adam Kinzinger easily secured the Republican nomination in his re-election bid. The incumbent defeated Tea Party activist David Hale by a difference of more than 55-percentage points. Kinzinger says for the general election, things like the Affordable Care Act might serve as key talking points at the national level. But the Republican says he's also ready to discuss jobs.

"At the end of the day, people wanna know how they're going to get a job, and why this has been the worst economic recovery in a long time, " Kinzinger said.

Kinzinger will face Democrat Randall Olsen in November. Olsen, who is from Ottawa, ran unopposed in the primary.

Unofficial totals:

Kinzinger: 55,781 - 78%

Hale: 15,319 - 22%
