"Kite Runner" in, "Tea" out at Elgin

By Dan Klefstad

DeKalb – Elgin Community College will present a stage adaptation of "The Kite Runner," the acclaimed international best-seller by Khaled Hosseini, to raise funds to help build schools in central Asia. The May 1 performance will be at 2 p.m. in the college's arts center.
The presentation replaces the previously scheduled "Three Cups of Tea," which was cancelled after reports of factual and financial irregularities in author Greg Mortenson's recounting of his inspiration and efforts to establish schools for girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Steve Duchrow, Director of Performing Arts at ECC, said ticketholders for the original performance will be contacted by the box office to explain options. Tickets for "The Kite Runner" also are available through the box office.
