LaHood Sworn Into Congress; Bustos Approves

Republican Darin LaHood was sworn into Congress Thursday…and a Democratic lawmaker says she’s ready to work with him.

LaHood last week won a special election to fill the vacant seat in Illinois’s 18th District.

Cheri Bustos, who represents the neighboring 17th District, says she’s well-acquainted with LaHood.

“He was first elected in 2011. I first started running in 2011. So we’ve been in the scene together from the start,” Bustos said. “I was just with his father talking about transportation just a couple weeks ago in Peoria County. I’ve known his dad for a long, long time and I’ve known Darin for a number of years. I think we’ll work well together.”

Bustos says she also believes the people of the 18th District are ready to move on with a new representative.

LaHood replaces Aaron Schock, who resigned in March amid questions about his spending and use of campaign funds.
