LaSalle County Jail Could Get More Money If Chicago Prisoner Transfer Goes Through

The LaSalle County Jail could get some extra money if some Chicago-area inmates are housed at the facility.

The LaSalle County Jail was built in anticipation the inmate population would increase over the years. But, that hasn't happened.

Now, some Cook County detainees might be transferred to the LaSalle County jail.

It was designed to hold 300 people...but LaSalle Sheriff Tom Templeton says there are times when the jail is only half full.

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart recently toured the LaSalle Jail in Ottawa. The Chicago area currently sends inmates to Livingston County and an official there says his county gets 50-dollars a day for each non-resident inmate it houses.

No word on when a decision will be made whether Cook County will send inmates to LaSalle County.
