The Republicans hoping to be Illinois’ next lieutenant governor got their debate time Thursday night.
On WTTW’s Chicago Tonight program - the candidates were asked "What’s one thing any lieutenant governor has done that’s made an impression on you?"
The four candidates didn’t answer - and instead agreed Illinois’ new system for picking lieutenant governors is better.
Now - candidates running for governor choose their running mates - instead of letting the voters decide.
Maria Rodriguez: "It is much more of a team approach."
Steve Kim: "We have a partnership."
Jil Tracy: "It is a new day."
Maria Rodriguez is State Senator Bill Brady’s running mate.
Steve Kim with Treasurer Dan Rutherford.
And Jil Tracy with State Senator Kirk Dillard.
Evelyn Sanguinetti is businessman Bruce Rauner’s running mate.
There is a bill pending to abolish the office of lieutenant governor altogether in the state legislature.
