Lynch Finishes Third in Heisman Voting

NIU

Northern Illinois University quarterback Jordan Lynch, a senior from Mt. Carmel High School, placed third in the Heisman Trophy balloting Saturday night.  He is the first Huskie player to be selected as a finalist for the honor, which annually recognizes the most outstanding football player in the country. He also ranked highest of any Mid American Conference players ever considered for the Heisman.

Freshman quarterback Jameis Winston of Florida State University won the trophy with 668 first-place votes, although he was not named at all on 115 ballots from sportswriters around the nation. Winston had been accused of raping a woman a year ago, but prosecutors declined to file charges citing lack of conclusive evidence.

Alabama's AJ McCarron finished second. Boston College's Andre Williams followed Lynch in fourth place. Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel, who won the award last season, and Auburn's Tre Mason rounded out the finalists.
