A March To DC For Climate Change Awareness

A group of climate change activists is making its way from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C.  Tuesday, they set up camp in DeKalb, pitching their tents and solar panels on Northern Illinois University’s campus near Northern Public Radio’s studio.

“The Great March For Climate Action” plans to deliver its message to the President, Congress, ANYONE who’ll listen, in the nation’s capitol in November.

David Zahrt says he’s the oldest activist who has been along for the whole trip… he’s 77. And he’s doing it for his grandchildren.

“I’m hoping that WE can, the MARCH can, give attention to this so that people change the way they’re consuming and throwing away the climate.”

Dana  McGuire is traveling with her husband and two little girls. She says she only recently learned how urgent the climate crisis really is:

“I was busy, you know, like a squirrel gathering nuts, I was a mommy, I had babies and I was tuned into my personal life. I wasn’t following science. But when I tuned back in, I realized this was the last chance.”

Everyone’s welcome to join the walk or just visit with the marchers. They’re making their way toward Chicago, where there are a number of rallies planned this weekend.
