Officials at the airport in Rockford say they're suspending the annual AirFest air show due to recent expansion at the facility.
Chicago Rockford International Airport Director Mike Dunn says several of the new businesses at the airport have non-stop operations. He says that makes it ``very challenging to close the airport for four days.''
More than 75,000 people have come to AirFest in previous years to see headliners like the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.
Dunn says that kind of traffic congestion ``would put a heavy burden on the operations of new businesses.'' He says the airport's priority is to its customers and tenants.
The airport now home to a $40 million jet repair and service hub and has an ongoing $20 million passenger terminal expansion.
