New Sycamore Library Director Talks Long and Short-Term Goals

The Sycamore Public Library got a new executive director earlier this month, who recently discussed the library’s future with WNIJ.

For four years, Jesse Butz has worked with the Sycamore Public Library, starting as head of adult services. He says he wants to create new working relationships with other community units and improving upon existing relationships, along with developing new programs and maintaining current ones.

“We have a lot of patrons who are very, very passionate about us,” Butz said. “I’d like to find ways to get those people who might not be library users now, get them engaged into us – making sure they understand all that we have to offer.”

Butz says one possible program would include Nintendo’s newest gaming system.

“You know, when you think of Sycamore, you think of the amazing school district, you know, the fantastic park district, the well-run city, this hometown feel – and we want to make sure that our library is in that discussion,” Butz said.

For now, though, Butz says the library is currently working on new hiring decisions – including for his old job title – and budget requests to the city.
