Northern Illinois University campus parking officials say enforcement hours for marked lots now run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
However, those hours do not apply to restricted parking areas like no-parking zones, handicapped spaces, and reserved spaces. Campus lots will require permits at all times.
Enforcement hours for reserved parking spaces still run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or at all times as posted.
A pay station has also been added to the parking lot east of NIU’s Campus Life Building. It replaces previously placed coin meters. That station allows patrons to pay with cash, credit or debit card and park for up to four hours at a time.
Parking services is also offering motorcycle and scooter parking permits to students and faculty for less than half the original cost. However, it's limited to those who've already purchased a parking pass for their main vehicles.
Officials say the change was based on customer feedback. Motorcycles still need to be parked in designated areas, but they could also be parked in the owner’s reserved space or pay spaces.
Parking officials say those who already paid for a motorcycle pass at full price after paying for a car parking pass will be reimbursed.
