NIU Police to Collaborate with DeKalb Department

NIU Police

NIU police will work more with DeKalb officers after a high-profile incident within the campus department.  It's been more than a month since a judge determined NIU Police Chief Don Grady and a lieutenant mishandled evidence in a rape case against another officer.

Acting NIU police director Bill Nicklas says the matter is currently under the guidance of the General Counsel's office. In the meantime, the Daily Chronicle reports the campus police department has rejoined the county's major case squad.  They are also reviewing department procedures. Campus officers might soon ride along with DeKalb police as part of an officer exchange program.
