NIU Student Arrested After Guns Found In Dorm

NIU Police

NIU officials announced Wednesday that a student was arrested for having firearms inside his dorm room.

In a statement, the university says there is no threat to the campus. The student has since been banned from NIU property.

Here is a copy of the statement:

At 4:15 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12th, 2013, Northern Illinois University Police arrested an NIU student for unlawful possession of firearms after responding to a tip and finding weapons in the student’s residence hall room. NIU Police indicate there is no threat to the campus community. University officials have banned the student from the campus as a result of the incident pending completion of a judicial review process. NIU Police Chief Thomas Phillips said, “Firearms or weapons of any kind have no place on a college campus.”

The statement also reminds students and faculty about the school's policy when it comes to concealed carry.
